Poul Høxbro is a true pioneer in the field of music. He was also chosen as one of 9 flautists from all around the world to take part in the "Magical Flutes" project at Germany's biggest Folk and World Music Festival in Rudolstadt. He has been called ”the great man of small instruments” and it is true that he is quite unique in the way he has taken the medieval instrument of pipe-&-tabor out of the shadows and into the full glare of concert platforms all over  the world. Furthermore he masters instruments as xun, low whistle and traditional Scandinavian willow flute and valdhorn. Always trying to push the instruments to their limits and to renew their repertoire.

Poul Høxbro has created and led several projects with the Danish baroque orchestra, Concerto Copenhagen, and occasionally guest teaches at Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. He was music consultant for Robert Eggers movie, The Northman (Universal Pictures, 2022) and played all the flute and horn parts for the sound track. 

In January 2022 he released an album with music for the xun, Borne by the Wind - music for xin solo. Thus making this the first introduction in music history of the Chinese xun into western classical music.

Besides his music, Poul Høxbro is a much sought-after storyteller. He has received outstanding reviews for his dramatic and utterly magic way of drawing an audience into the world of myth and legend – be it in Danish, Swedish, German or English!

PIBE & TROMME, FLØJTER & SLAGTØJ OG HISTORIEFORTÆLLING 

Poul Høxbro er en sand kunstnerisk og musikalsk pionér. Anderkendt for sit banebrydende arbejde med den historiske kombination af enhåndsfløjte og slagtøj blev han for år tilbage udvalgt som én af ni fløjtenister fra hele verden til at lave projektet "Magic Flutes" ved Tysklands største folk- og world music festival i Rudolstadt. Han er blevet kaldt "det lille instruments store mand",  og sandt er det, at han - som ingen anden i verden - har formået at løfte middelalderens instrumentkombination af fløjte-&-tromme ud af raritetskabinettet og ført den til vidt forskellige koncertscener verden over.

Desuden mestrer han instrumenter som xun, low whistle, seljefløjte og vallhorn; og altid forsøger han at presse instrumenterne til deres yderste grænser og forny både deres repertoire og musikalske roller. 

Hans repertoire omfatter musik fra vikingetid til eksperimenterende samtidsmusik samt historie-fortælling på 4 sprog.

Poul Høxbro har desuden ledt en række projekter med barokorkestret Concerto Copenhagen og er periodevis gæstelærer ved Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. Han var musikkonsulent for Robert Eggers film, The Northman, og indspillede både horn- og fløjtestemmer på filmen. 

I januar 2022 udkom han med albummet Borne by the Wind - music for xun solo (Gateway Music), og introducerede dermed for føste gang i musikhistorien den kinesiske fløjte i klassisk vestlig musik.
